Our hands-on Sicily cooking class is an unforgerttable experience and you will have the opportunity to be introduced to our traditional Sicilian cuisine. The Sicilian cooking class that we offer takes place in Federico 11 school of Italian located at Via Garibaldi 9 next to Piazza Duomo on the second floor. The cooking lesson is entirely in English and starts at 11 o’clock and lasts for about 4 hours.
The school is located in an exclusive location. It is in a noble palace right above the picturesque fish market of Catania ‘A Piscaria’ and it is one of the most tourist attractions of the city.
Briefing and presentation of the daily menù
Upon your arrival at the school you will be met by our chef, and before going to do the shopping , you will go over the menu based mainly on fresh seasonal local products or on your special requests made upon booking with our chef.
You are kindly requested to inform us of any food allergy or any other requests e.g. vegetartians, vegans or intolerance to any specific food product upon booking.
Each one of you will be given the menu of the day with a list of all the ingredients to buy, as well as the prepartion method of each recipe.
Each menu consists of ‘Starter First and Second Course fresh fruit in season or Dessert. the menu can be modified in accordance with the participants and the chef.
Buying the ingredientes at Catania fish market
Together with our English speaking chef/teacher, you will do the shopping at the market, where you will be involved in the bartering and buying of fresh seasonal local products. This is a first hand experience in getting to know our most trusted vendors who are always willing to exchange a few words joke and take photos with tourists.
Cooking our menù
When shopping is done, you will head back to the school to start cooking under the supervision of our chef who will teach you how to prepare traditional Sicilian dishes adding a few granny tips which are not found in normal recipes but useful to personalize the dishes. The cooking class usually lasts for 1hr 15mins and it is the first fun phase of socialiasing.
Eating all together
When cooking is done, the long for moment arrives: lunch. lunch or dinner is held in the dining room and together you will eat an exchange comments on the dishes prepared entirely by you.
This is the moment to be able to get to know each other and relax with a glass of excellent wine and savour the delicacies prepared by you.
